HORSEMANSHIP CAMP - 2026 - SASKATCHEWAN, SK

The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the SASKATCHEWAN HORSEMANSHIP CAMP 15-16 OCT 2026 is now open. The application deadline is 23 Sep 2026 at 2345 hrs central time.

AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT:

Soldier On, in collaboration with East Edge Equestrian, will conduct a two-day Saskatoon Horse Camp just East of Saskatoon, SK, on Thursday, October 15th, and Friday, October 16th, 2026. The two-day camp is designed to provide the participant with the knowledge, techniques and skills required to understand basic riding, horse care, and stable requirements. Up to four (4) participants will receive one-on-one assistance and feedback from experienced instructors.

This activity will bring together both serving and retired ill/injured CAF members, allowing participants to connect through peer support and encourage a healthy and active lifestyle. It will also provide an opportunity for Soldier On participants to learn basic equestrian techniques through instruction and coaching.

The number of Soldier On participants is limited to 4.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: 
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) from the province of Saskatchewan who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Selected Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate. 

DRAFT SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

15 & 16 Oct 2026:

-0730 hrs: Arrive at East Edge Equestrian + check in with Soldier On Staff;

-0800-1200 hrs: Conduct event;

-1200-1300 hrs: Lunch;

-1300-1500 hrs: Conduct Event; &

-1500-1600 hrs: Clean up and Departure.

TRANSPORTATION & MEALS:

Transportation:

Dundurn / Saskatoon Area: Travel assistance will not be provided to participants from the Dundurn / Saskatoon & surrounding area (100 KM) as this is considered a local event for these members.

Moose Jaw / Regina Area: Travel assistance will be provided for participants from the Moose Jaw / Regina & surrounding area (100 KM).

Meals:

Lunch (Bar Burrito / Subway) will be provided for all participants of this event on both 15 & 16 Oct 26.
 

Mental & Physical Requirements

Applicants must be able to tolerate 8 hours of moderate to high paced activities for two consecutive days. Due to the busy activity schedule, applicants must have a limited requirement for rest throughout the day. 

Participants must be able to conduct manual labour requiring upper & lower body strength, climb stairs, lift and swing a 40-lb saddle shoulder high, and be outdoors for extended periods of time during all conditions without issue or being in violation of their MELs. 
Participants must weigh under 250 lbs (as per regulations from the Service Delivery Provider for the horse’s safety). 

Applicants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment.
